The Gifts & Lessons of the Kombucha Mother Culture
Explore the wonders, mysteries, & benefits behind the alchemy of fermenting tea with a "mother culture" also called "SCOBY" (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast).
Participate by tasting, smelling, and learning to make kombucha in its most alive & medicinal state. Together we will create a special batch of Kombucha and individually you will leave with everything you need to start making your own kombucha at home (a mother culture of your own, strong starter liquid, & a special tea blend).
We will briefly touch on the history & lore of fermentation & alchemy. Then move into discussing kombucha in particular. What is it? What are the benefits? How do you make it? What are the optimal conditions for a healthy ferment? These questions & others will be addressed.
The workshop will will be a hands on activity. Everyone will be able to touch a SCOBY culture, taste kombucha at different stages of fermentation and assist in the process of getting a special batch of kombucha ready for the weekend. We will also briefly go over & experiment with the other uses of kombucha by-products including skin cream, hair tonic, and crafting with dehydrated scoby.
